Drop Stitch Top

Knit this baby up in one piece and you will have a fabulous sweater to wear with everything! This Paton pattern comes in all sizes!

Patons® Grace™ (50 g/1.75 oz; 125 m/136 yds)
Sizes XS/S M L XL 2/3XL 4/5XL
62244 (Wasabi)  7 8 9 10 11 12   balls
Size 3.75 (U.S. 5) circular knitting needle 40” [100 cm] long
and size 3.25 (U.S. 3) circular knitting needle 24” [60 cm]
long or size needed to obtain gauge.

TENSION
24 sts and 26 rows = 4" [10 cm] with larger needles in Drop
St Pat.



INSTRUCTIONS
The instructions are written for smallest size. If changes are necessary for larger
sizes, the instructions are written thus (  ). Numbers for each size are shown in the
same color throughout the pattern. When only one number is given in black, it
applies to all sizes.
Note: Top is worked in one piece from Front to Back.
With larger needle, beg at lower edge of Back, cast on 102 (114-126-138162-186)
sts.
Do not join.
Working back and forth across needle in rows, knit 10 rows (garter st), noting rst row is WS.
Next row: (WS).*K16 (18-20-22-26-30). Inc 1 st in next st. Rep from * to end of row.
108 (120-132-144-168-192)sts.

Proceed in Drop St Pat as follows:
1st, 3rd and 5th rows: (RS). Knit.
2nd and 4th rows: Purl.
6th row: Knit.
7th row: Knit, wrapping yarn around needle 3 times each st.
8th row: Knit, dropping extra 2 loops of each st.
These 8 rows form Drop St Pat.
Cont in pat until work from beg measures approx 11 (11-11-11½-12-12) ” [ 28
(28-28-29-30.5-30.5) cm], ending with a 1st or 3rd row of pat.

Shape sleeves: Next row: (WS). Cast on 33 sts. Purl to end of row.
Next row: Cast on 33 sts. Knit to end of row. 174 (186-198-210-234-258) sts.
Next row: K5. Pat to last 5 sts. K5.
Rep last row, keeping cont of Drop St Pat and working rst and last 5 sts of
each row in garter st, until work from beg measures approx 19 (19½-20-20½21½-22)
” [ 48 (49.5-51-52-54.5-56) cm], ending on a 1st or 3rd row of pat.
Divide for neck: Next row: (WS). Pat across rst 60 (66-72-78-90-102) sts.
Leave these sts on spare needle (Left Sleeve). Cast o next 54 sts. Pat across last 60 (66-72-78-90-102) sts (Right Sleeve).
**Shape right neck: Keeping cont of pat, dec 1 st at neck edge on next 16
rows. 44 (50-56-62-74-86) sts.
Work 8 rows even in pat.
Keeping cont of pat, inc 1 st at neck edge on next 16 rows. 60 (66-72-78-90102) sts.**
Next row: Work even in pat.
Break yarn.
Slip these 60 (66-72-78-90-102) sts onto a spare needle.

Shape left neck: With RS facing, rejoin yarn to 60 (66-72-78-90102) sts of Left Sleeve.
Work from ** to ** as given for Right Neck.
Joining row: (RS). Pat across 60 (66-72-78-90-102) sts of Left Sleeve.
Cast on 54 sts. Pat across 60 (66-72-78-90-102) sts of Right Sleeve from spare needle. 174 (186-198-210-234-258) sts.
Cont even in pat until work from last cast on row at Front neck edge measures 8 (8½-9-9-9½-10) ” [ 20.5 (21.5-23-23-24.525.5) cm], ending with a WS
row.
Shape sleeves: Next 2 rows: Cast o 33 sts. Pat to end of row.
108 (120-132-144-168-192) sts at end of 2nd row.
Cont even in Drop St Pat until work from last sleeve cast o row measures approx 10 (10-10-10½-11-11) ” [ 25.5 (25.5-25.526.5-28-28)
cm] ending with a 5th row of pat.
Next row: (WS). *K16 (18-20-22-26-30). K2tog. Rep from * to end of row. 102 (114-126-138-162-186) sts.
Knit 9 rows (garter st).
Cast off (WS).

Sew side and sleeve seams.
Neck edging: With RS facing and smaller circular needle, beg at center back neck edge, pick up and knit 164 sts evenly around neck edge. Join for working in rnd, placing marker on rst st.
Next rnd: Purl.
Next rnd: Knit.
Rep last 2 rnds once more.
Cast off .

Classic Spring Sweater

A ribbed sweater for spring is always a classic. This Berroco Yarn pattern is the perfect one!

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
Bust – 32(36-40-44-48-52)”
Length – 20(20½-21½-22-23-23½)”

MATERIALS
9(10-11-13-14-16) Hanks BERROCO CAPTIVA (50 grs), #5512 Aqua
Straight knitting needles, sizes 6 (4.00 mm) and 8 (5.00 mm) OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
16” Length circular knitting needle, size 6 (4.00 mm)
1 St marker


GAUGE
17 sts = 4”; 30 rows = 4” in Shaker Rib on larger needles
TO SAVE TIME, TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE
SHAKER RIB (Odd number of sts)
Set-Up Row (RS):  P1, * k1, p1, rep from * across.
Row 1 (WS):  K1, * bring yarn to RS of work under needle and sl the next st, k1, bringing yarn over needle (this forms a yo), k1, rep from * across.
Row 2 (RS):  P1, * k yo and slipped st tog as one, p1, rep from * across.
Rep Rows 1 and 2 for Shaker Rib.

BACK
With smaller straight needles, cast on 102(118-130-142-154-170) sts.
Row 1 (RS):  K2, * p2, k2, rep from * across.
Row 2:  P2, * k2, p2, rep from * across.  Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 2” from beg, end on WS, dec 33(41-45-47-51-59) sts across – 69(77-85-95-103-111) sts.  Change to larger needles and work even in Shaker Rib until piece measures 12(12-12½-12½-13-13)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Armholes:  Bind off 3(4-4-5-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 59(65-73-81-89-95) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every RS row 2(3-5-7-8-9) times – 55(59-63-67-73-77)sts.  Work even until armholes measure 7(7½-8-8½-9-9½)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders and Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Bind off 2(2-4-4-5-5), work until there are 8(10-10-12-1416)sts on RH  needle, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 35 sts, work to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 2(2-4-4-5-5) sts at beg of the next row, then 2(3-3-4-5-6) sts at beg of the next 4 rows.
AT THE SAME TIME, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice.

FRONT
Work same as back until armholes measure 5(5½-6-6½-7-7½)”, end on WS – 55(59-63-67-73-77) sts.
Shape Neck:  Next Row (RS):  Work 16(18-20-22-25-27) sts, join another hank of yarn and bind off center 23 sts, work to end.  Working both sides at once, bind off 2 sts at each neck edge twice, then dec 1 st at each
neck edge every RS row 6 times.  When all decs have been completed, work even on 6(8-10-12-15-17) sts each side if necessary until armholes measure 7(7½-8-8½-9-9½)”, end on WS.   Bind off 2(2-4-4-5-5) sts at each armhole edge once, then 2(3-3-4-5-6) sts twice for shoulders.

SLEEVES
With smaller straight needles, cast on 58 sts.  Work in ribbing same as back for 2”, end on WS, dec 19 sts across – 39 sts.  Change to larger needles and work in Shaker Rib, inc 1 st each side every 2(1½-2¼-1- ¾ ¾)” 6(8-10-12-14-16)  times, working incs into pat as sts become available – 51(55-59-63-67-71) sts.  Work even until sleeve measures 15” from beg, end on WS. 
Shape Cap:  Bind off 3(4-4-5-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2 rows, then 2 sts at beg of the following 2 rows – 41(43-47-49-53-55) sts.  Dec 1 st each side every 4th row 0(0-0-1-1-2) times, then every RS row 13(1315-13-15-13) times, end on WS–15(17-17-21-21-25)sts.

Bind off remaining 9(13-13-17-17-21)sts.

FINISHING
Sew shoulder seams.
Neckband:  With RS facing, using circular needle, beg at left shoulder seam, pick up and k112 sts around entire neck edge.  Mark for beg of rnd and carry marker up.  Work even in k2, p2 ribbing for 1¼".  Bind off in ribbing.  Sew in sleeves.  Sew side and sleeve seams.
