Knitted Headband with Pompom

A lot of you are suffering a terrible winter, no reason not to knit up this cute headband that will bring a smile and warmth to your days before spring hopefully arrives! This pattern from Caron yarns is quick and easy!

Caron® Simply Soft® (6 oz/170 g; 315 yds/288 m)
Watermelon (9604) 1 ball
Bernat® Faux Fur Pompom™
White Rabbit (01005) 1 pompom
Size U.S. 8 (5 mm) knitting needles or size needed to obtain gauge.

MEASUREMENTS
Approx 4" [10 cm] wide x 19" [48 cm]
around.
GAUGE
18 sts and 24 rows = 4" [10 cm] in
stocking st.
INSTRUCTIONS
Cast on 23 sts.
1st row: (RS). K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
2nd and 3rd rows: P1. *K1. P1. Rep from * to end of row.
4th row: K1. *P1. K1. Rep from * to end of row.
Rep last 4 rows for pat until work from beg measures 19" [48 cm], ending on a RS row.
Cast off (WS).

FINISHING
Sew cast on and cast off edges tog.
Gather Headband along seam and sew Bernat® Faux Fur Pompom™ to Headband.

OK all you Northern and Eastern babes....so sorry winter is so long, so snowy, so cold and so icy...what a perfect excuse to stay in and knit! Knit this headband and shawl to keep you snug as a bug in a rug!

HEADBAND:
Sizes: One size

Materials: DROPS ALASKA, 50 gr nr 50, brown

Needles 4.5 mm [US 7] needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.

Gauge:
18 sts x 23 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm

Headband: Start at center back. Cast on 19 sts. Knit rib as follows:
Row 1 (right side): K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), * K 2, P 1 * repeat a total of 5 times – finish row with K 2 and K 1 (edge st knit in garter st).
Row 2 (wrong side): K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), * P 2, K 1 * repeat a total of 5 times – finish row with P 2 and K 1 (edge st knit in garter st).
Make all incs on right side rows.

When the piece measures 8 cm inc all P 1 to P 2 = 24 sts.

When the piece measures 14 cm inc all P 2 to P 3 = 29 sts.

When the piece measures 18 cm inc all P 3 to P 4 = 34 sts.

When the piece measures 21 cm inc all P 4 to P 5 = 39 sts.
When the piece measures 24 cm place a marker = this is the center of headband.
Now reverse shaping – measure from marker.
Make all decs on right side rows.

When the piece measures 3 cm dec all P 5 to P 4 = 34 sts.

When the piece measures 6 cm dec all P 4 to P 3 = 29 sts.

When the piece measures 10 cm dec all P 3 to P 2 = 24 sts.

When the piece measures 16 cm dec all P 2 to P 1 = 19 sts.

When the piece measures 48 cm join to cast-on edge (do not bind off first).

SHAWL :
Measurements:
Length: 100 cm [39?3/8"]
Width: 205 cm [80.75"]

Materials: VIENNA
200 gr nr 43, light brown
Needles 15 mm [US 19] needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.

Gauge: 5 sts x 9 rows in garter st = 10 x 10 cm (this is loosely knit)

Shawl: Cast on 4 sts and knit garter st, increasing 1 st at one side every other row. Inc by knitting 2 sts in 1 st. Continue incs until there are 50 sts, the piece measures approx. 102 cm. Now dec on the same side as incs – dec every other row by K 2 tog the 2 outermost sts. Continue dec until 4 sts remain, the piece measures approx. 205 cm, bind off.

Fringe: Fasten fringe tufts along both sides approx. 4-5 cm apart – start at point at lower edge. Cut 6 strands 35 cm long, fold in half, pull folded end through outermost st and pull ends through loop.

Instructions:
Headband: CO 76 st- Join in round.
Work 5 rows in Twisted rib - *Ktbl, p1* around.
Work 16 rows in St st- knit around.
Work 5 rows in Twisted rib.
26 rows total.
BO in Sewn-bind off.

Row 1 (rs): Kfb to marker, sm, *K1, kfb* to marker, sm,* K2, kfb* to end. (20/24/24)
Row 2 and all even: Purl all.
Rep these two rows 2 more times.
Row 3: (40/36/32)
Row 5: ( 80/ 54/42)
BO loosely. Sew into a swirl, starting with the dense end first.
Stitch together, overlapping about ½ inch as it is sewn in a swirl. Sew flower and leaves to headband using whip stitch.

Cool Headband!

This simple headband is perfect to stash in your purse or your gym bag. The double strand of yarn makes it very quick to knit. Depending on the yarn you choose, you can easily knit two headbands from just one skein of the yarn. Finished Sizes: 18” slightly stretched

Yarn: Knit Picks Dancing (41% Cotton, 39% Wool, 13% Nylon, 7% Elastic; 253 yds/50 g): Hula 23591, 1 ball.

Needles: US 7 (4.5 mm): Circular or straight
Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain correct gauge.

Notions: Yarn needle

Gauge: Approximately 20 sts /24 rows = 4”.in garter st on US 7s. Gauge is not really critical for this project.
Note: Yarn is doubled throughout.

Directions:
With two strands of yarn, CO 7 sts.
K 18 rows.
Increase pattern
Next row: K1, m1, k to end of row.
Next row: K.
Repeat these two rows eight times more: 16 sts on the needle.
K 30 rows.
Decrease pattern
Next row: K1, k2tog, k to end of row.
Next row: K.
Repeat these two rows eight times more: 7 sts on the needle.
K 18 rows.
BO.
Sew left and right edges together; work in all ends.
