Knitted Shawl With a Twist

It's all in the back detail of this shawl pattern from Fiesta Yarns!

MATERIALS
Yarn: Ballet (50% Superfine Alpaca/50% Tencel; 4 oz./250 yds.) 1 skein each of two colorways.
Colorways are Wild Oak (A) and River Bank (B).Needles: Size 7 (or size needed for gauge).

DIRECTIONS twist].
With color A CO 11 sts.
K1, P1 (seed stitch) across row ending with K1. Repeat this row until piece measures 10”, cut yarn and leave sts on needle. Make 4 more tabs like this. There should be 55 sts on needle now. K 5 rows. Continue in seed st. Dec 1 st at end of row every 4th row. Dec are best made 1 st in from edge. Continue until 3 sts are left and knit them all together. With color B c/o 11 sts - - then continue as for color A. Place the 2 pieces on flat surface with the straight edges on top and the tabs touching. Take the top 2 tabs (one of each color) and fold them over each other giving a half  twist to each side. Sew cast on edge of tab to top of the same color. Continue with the other 4 sets of tabs. [They can also be put together without the  twist].

Knitted Famous Shawl

I have knitted over five shawls from this pattern using different yarns ( adjusting to gauge) and each one has turned out beautifully! You can never have too many triangle shawls, especially from this Fiesta Yarns pattern!

MATERIALS 
Yarn: La Boheme (50% Rayon, 34%
Brushed Kid Mohair, 14% Wool, 4% Nylon; 4 oz./165 yds.) 2 skeins.
You may substitute Starburst La Boheme or Insignia La Boheme. The colorway shown is Aster.
Needles: Size 17 circular needles and medium crochet hook. Notions: Scissors, yarn needle with big eye (pointed for weaving in ends) Optional: Beads with a hole large enough for a crochet hook to go through and Gelato ribbon for fringe.

GAUGE
9 stitches = 5”; 8 rows = 3”

PATTERN STITCH Garter Stitch - Knit all rows.


INSTRUCTIONS
Loosely cast on 18 stitches. Using size 17 circular needles work Garter Stitch increasing 1 stitch at the beginning of every row until you have 94 sts. Knit one row without increasing--you should have approximately 1.75 ozs of yarn left. Bind off loosely.

FINISHING
The shawl will measure less than the finished dimensions. Do not worry! It is designed to be  stretched. Go ahead and lightly ™block the shawl to the dimensions shown.

FRINGE
Cut a piece of cardboard into a 7 inch square. Wrap the yarn around  the cardboard 150 times. Cut the strands at the point where you began wrapping. Use two double strands of mohair and
rayon together for each fringe knot (approx. 75 total).
Beginning at point A,*fold the double strands in half and usea crochet hook to thread these strands through the outside edge of the shawl. Pull
without increasing--you should the end through the  loop created.* Repeat between * approximately every 1 1/8 inch to point B, across to point C, and up to point D.

Finishing Options
 ™Cut the ribbon the length of the fringe strands and use a few along the edge for a more luxurious look.

™Pull the fringe strands through a bead before attaching to the edge for an elegant look.

Knit a row of ribbon randomly throughout the stole for a different look.

SHAWL

With circular needle, using 1 strand each of A and B held tog, cast on 128 sts. Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark for beg of round and carry marker up. Work even in St st (k EVERY round) until piece measures 56" from beg.

Buttonhole Round: K48, bind off next 5 sts, k until there are 22 sts on needle after bound-off sts, bind off next 5 sts, k to end. K the next round, cast on 5 sts over each group of sts bound off on previous round – 128 sts. Work even in St st until piece measures 60" from beg. Bind off all sts.

FINISHING

Lay shawl flat with buttonholes lined up. Steam lightly. Slip st edges of buttonholes tog, forming 1 buttonhole. Slip st open ends of shawl tog forming double-thick flat shawl. Wrap shawl around shoulders with buttonhole at right neck edge. Lap right top edge over left top edge, adjusting to fit. Mark placement of button. Sew on button.

Diamond Pattern Shawl With a Sweet Border

This is one sweet shawl...2 different patterns, (one for the border and one for the body), use a soft yarn to make it really sweet. A shawl knit from the bottom up. The border is knit last and attached by

Patterb; work 160 rows (10 reps), end after WS row 16—171 sts. Change to
Edge Patterb; work 5 rows, end after RS row 1—177 sts. (WS) BO all sts knitwise.
Do NOT break yarn; leave 1 loop on needle.

Border
Use Knitted Method to CO 1 st, then use the Cable Method to CO 15 more
sts—17 sts. (WS) Purl 1 row, wyif insert RH needle into the first eyelet hole along
the selvedge edge from the RS to the WS, turn. (RS) Begin Border Pattern; work
Border Pattern along selvedge edge until there are only 2 eyelet holes rem
before the point (17 reps). Turn Point: Cont to work Border Pattern, working
2 times each into the 2 eyelet holes before the point, 3 times into the point
eyelet, then 2 times each into the 2 eyelet holes after the point. Resume
working once in each eyelet to end of shawl, end after WS Row 10. (RS) BO all

Finishing
Block to measurements, taking extra care to smooth the curve of the point.

OK all you Northern and Eastern babes....so sorry winter is so long, so snowy, so cold and so icy...what a perfect excuse to stay in and knit! Knit this headband and shawl to keep you snug as a bug in a rug!

HEADBAND:
Sizes: One size

Materials: DROPS ALASKA, 50 gr nr 50, brown

Needles 4.5 mm [US 7] needles, or size needed to obtain correct gauge.

Gauge:
18 sts x 23 rows in stockinette st = 10 x 10 cm

Headband: Start at center back. Cast on 19 sts. Knit rib as follows:
Row 1 (right side): K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), * K 2, P 1 * repeat a total of 5 times – finish row with K 2 and K 1 (edge st knit in garter st).
Row 2 (wrong side): K 1 (edge st knit in garter st), * P 2, K 1 * repeat a total of 5 times – finish row with P 2 and K 1 (edge st knit in garter st).
Make all incs on right side rows.

When the piece measures 8 cm inc all P 1 to P 2 = 24 sts.

When the piece measures 14 cm inc all P 2 to P 3 = 29 sts.

When the piece measures 18 cm inc all P 3 to P 4 = 34 sts.

When the piece measures 21 cm inc all P 4 to P 5 = 39 sts.
When the piece measures 24 cm place a marker = this is the center of headband.

WORKING WITH OPERADARTE
OPERADARTE is a ribbon yarn with black (or white) mohair picot along one edge and square eyelets along the opposite edge. While it can be knitted alone, it is more frequently used as a carry-along yarn to create dramatic ruffles on a garment or accessories knit from a classic yarn.
To add a ruffle, simply pick up Operadarte [with tip of the needle inserted into a square eyelet] and knit it together with the main yarn. The pick-up should be made in each stitch in that
row, inserting the needle into EVERY OTHER square eyelet on the Operadarte (or as indicated in the pattern).

A simple triangle shawl with a decorative edge in pleats! You can make it as long and large as you want! Knit in light worsted yarn, this shawl is the perfect companion on a cool spring evening or layered under a winter coat for fall.

Yarn:
Knit Picks Shine Worsted (60% Pima Cotton, 40% Modal® natural beech wood fiber; 75 yards/50g): Serrano 24496; 8 balls.
Needles: US 11 (8mm) 32” circ
Notions: stitch markers

Directions:
Cast on 170 stitches, placing a marker after the first five stitches and before the last five stitches (later these will become the fringe part of the shawl). As you knit each row, K2Tog just after the first marker.
Continue this decrease on each row until only one stitch remains between the two markers. Knit the first five stitches before the marker. Run the yarn through the last stitch leaving a long tail. Remove the needle from the last five stitches.
Lay the shawl on the floor and unravel the first and last 5 sts of each row to create the loops. Secure each loop with an overhand knot at the base by the knit fabric. Loop the long tail of the cast off at the bottom.

Note: When you add a new ball, do it as you start a new row leaving enough tail from the old and new balls to knot into two loops when you are finishing the edge later.
