GAUGE:
8 sts + 12 rows = about 4 in. (10 cm).
BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient.
If it takes you fewer stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size
hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.
 
STITCH EXPLANATION:
Yo (yarn over)
An increase that also creates a small decorative hole (eyelet) in the fabric, worked as follows:
1. Bring yarn to front, between the needles.
2. Take yarn to back, over the right needle. This creates the new st. You are now ready to
proceed with the next st as instructed.

GAUGE:
5 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Cowl pattern with larger needle and 2 strands of yarn held tog.
9 sts = about 4 in. (10 cm) in Wrap pattern with smaller needle and 1 strand of yarn.

COWL
With larger needle and 2 strands of yarn held tog, cast on 42 sts. Place marker for beg of rnd and join by working the first st on the left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle.
Rnds 1-6: Purl.
Rnds 7-10: Knit.
Rnds 11-15: Purl.
Rnds 16-24: Rep Rnds 7-15 Bind off.

WRAP
With smaller needle and 1 strand of yarn, cast on 85 sts.
Work back and forth on circular needle as if working on straight needles.
Rows1-13: Work in Garter st (k every row) for 13 rows.
Row 14 (WS): Purl.
Row 15: K1, *yo, k2tog; rep from * to end of row.
Row 16: Purl.
Rows 17-29: Work in Garter st for 13 rows.
Rows 30-45: Rep Rows 14-29.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Place a marker anywhere on one edge of Cowl. Place a 2nd marker on the same edge about 12 in. (30.5
cm) from the first marker. Sew one short edge of Wrap to WS of Cowl, gathering the edge of the wrap to
fit the 12 in. (30.5 cm) edge of the cowl between the markers. Remove markers.
Note: A helper will make the next part of finishing easier. Try on Cowl, with Wrap in front. Wrap the other
end of the Wrap around to your back, adjusting to fit, and pin to edge of Cowl. Take off Cowl and sew end.
Weave in ends.

Break yarn and slip these 5 sts back onto holder.
Slip stitch this side border in place.

Second side border
Slip 5 sts of second side border back onto 5mm (US 8) needles and join in yarn K
with RS facing.
Work in moss st on these 5 sts until side border, when slightly stretched, fits up side of centre striped section, ending with WS facing for next row.
Do NOT break yarn.
Slip stitch this side border in place.
Join sections
Next row (WS): Moss st 5 sts of second side border, now work across
WS of 65 sts of centre section as folls: P2tog, P61, P2tog, then moss st
across 5 sts of first side border. 73 sts.

Very loosely based on the traditional Log Cabin quilt block, designer Mags Kandis worked this wrap/oversized scarf square by square in the easy and satisfying mitered-square method of color knitting. Finished Size: About 16½" (42 cm) wide and 66" (168 cm) long, after blocking.

Yarn: Sportweight (#2 Fine). Shown here: Rowan Kidsilk Haze (70% super kid mohair; 30% silk; 230 yd [210 m]/25 g): #597 jelly (lime green; A), #596 marmalade (orange; B), #583 blushes (rose; C), #600 dewberry (lavender; D), #582 trance (medium blue; E), #578 swish (gold; F), #581 meadow (pale blue; G), #595 liqueur (dark red; H), and #588 drab (grey; I), 1 ball each.

NeedleS: Size 7 (4.5 mm). Note: a 16" (40 cm) bamboo circular needle is recommended. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

Notions: Marker (m); tapestry needle

Backward Loop Cast on *Loop working yarn and place it on needle backward so that it doesn’t unwind. Repeat from *.

Small square measures 2¾" (7 cm) square; large square measures 5½" (14 cm) square, both after blocking.

Small Square (worked on 24 sts):

Row 1: (WS) K12, place marker (pm), k12. Even-numbered

Rows 2–20: (RS) Knit to 2 sts before m, k2tog, slip marker (sl m), k2tog through back loops (tbl), knit to end—2 sts dec’d; 4 sts rem after completing Row 20.

Odd-numbered Rows 3–21: Knit.

Row 22: K2tog, k2tog tbl—2 sts rem.

Use left needle tip to lift second st on right needle over the first as if to BO—1 st. Cut yarn, draw tail through rem st, and pull tight to fasten off.

First Half:

Block 1: With A, CO 24 sts. Work Small Square (see Stitch Guide), working Rows 1–9 with A and Rows 10–22 with B.

Block 2: With I, CO 12 sts, then pick up and knit 12 sts evenly spaced along side edge of Block 1 as shown in diagram below—24 sts. Work Small Square, working Rows 1–5 with I, Rows 6–15 with D, and Rows 16–22 with F.

Block 3: With F, pick up and knit 12 sts evenly spaced across top of Block 1, then use the backward-loop method (see box) to CO 12 sts—24 sts total. Work Small Square, working Rows 1–5 with F, Rows 6–13 with E, and Rows 14–22 with H.

Row 2: (wrong side) Knit entire row.

Directions:
1. Cast on LOOSELY 100 stitches.

3. Work until almost all of the hank is used up.

Blocking & Care Instructions:
1. Wash in warm water using baby shampoo.
2. Rinse well and squeeze out excess moisture by wrapping in towels.

SCARF
With size 5 needle and Bamboo, cast on 36 sts.
Next row (RS) Knit.
Next row (WS) K1 (selvage st), p34, k1 (selvage st).
Cont in St st with selvage sts until piece measures 73"/185cm from cast-on row, end with a RS row.
Turning ridge
Next row (WS) Knit across.
Next row (RS) K1, p34, k1.
Cont in rev St st with selvage sts until piece measures 73"/185cm from turning ridge, end with a RS row.
Bind off.
FINISHING
Fold scarf in half at turning ridge.Working along one side of folded scarf, place a marker through both thicknesses at 3"/7.5cm from turning ridge, another marker at 57"/144.5cm from turning ridge. Sew lengthwise seam between markers. Leave other side of scarf unsewn. Carefully block pieces to prevent rolling. Beg at first seam marker and work 2 rows of sc around 6"/15cm opening. Beg at other seam marker and work 2 rows of sc around entire edge of
scarf. Remove markers.

Drop Stitch Wrap

MATERIALS
•860-153 Lion Brand Vanna's Choice® Yarn: Black 4 Balls
•Knitting Needles - Size 10.5 [6.5 mm]
•Stitch Markers
•Large-Eye Blunt Needle
•Additional Materials- 1 button, 1 in. (25 mm) diameter

GAUGE:
16 sts + 20 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (k on RS, p on WS). BE SURE TO CHECKYOUR GAUGE. When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or needles.

WRAP
Cast on 63 sts.
Work in St st (k on RS, p on WS) until piece measures about 60 in. (152.5 cm) from beginning, end with a WS row.
Drop-Stitch Row: Bind-off 6 sts, drop next 3 sts from left needle, *(loop yarn around right needle and bind off as if it were a st) 3 times, k3, drop 3 sts from left needle; repeat from * to last 6 sts, *(loop yarn around right needle and bind off) 3 times, k6. Unravel dropped sts back to cast on edge.
Bind off.

FINISHING
Collar Mark center point along one long side of Wrap. Place markers 20 in. (51 m) from each side of center point. From RS, pick up and k 65 sts evenly spaced between markers. Work in St st for 9 in. (23 cm). Bind off. Weave in ends.

•Knitting Needles- Size 8 [5 mm]
•Knitting Needles Size 11 [8 mm]
•Large-Eye Blunt Needle

GAUGE: 13 sts + 11 rows = 4 in. [10 cm] in k 2, p 2. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
STITCH EXPLANATION:
WRAP
With larger needles, cast on 50 sts.
Row 1 (RS): * K 2, p 2, rep from * to last 2 sts, k 2.
Row 2: * P 2, k 2, rep from * to last 2 sts, p 2
Rep Rows 1 and 2 until piece measures 48 in. [122 cm] from beg. Bind off. seam cast on edge to bind off edge with RS facing
CENTER RING
With smaller needles, cast on 8 sts. Work in Garter st (k every row) until piece measures 10 in. [25.5 cm] from beg. Bind off.
FINISHING
Sew short ends of Wrap together. Wrap Center Ring around Wrap, over seam, and sew short ends of Ring together. Weave in ends.
