1 Artyarns Skein Silk Mohair
Approximate Size: 10 x 75in
Pair Size 13 Knitting Needles
Crochet hook for attaching the fringe

Notes:
*Fringe - see instructions at end of pattern - some people like to cut the fringe fi rst to ensure they have enough for entire scarf.
Abbreviations:
K1 - knit one stitch
YO (yarn over - yarn wraps over needle)
DYO (Double Yarn Over - yarn wraps over needle twice)
Preparation: Wind Silk Rhapsody glitter and Silk Mohair together to create your spectacular knitting yarn. The way to do it - wind each yarn into a ball, then wind the two balls together.
Because of yardage differences, you may have excess silk mohair!

Stair Chain Links Pattern
Row 4 - K1, DYO repeat until last stitch
Last stitch: K1
Repeat row 4 till you have approximately 75” of length. Cast off.

Use remaining yarn to create tie fringe*
cut 10 inch lengths of yarn and hand tie or crochet onto fi rst and last rows to create fringe.

A Winter Cabled Capelet

Patons® Classic Wool Roving (100 g/3.5 oz; 109 m/120 yds) (77010 Natural)
XS/L 5 balls
XL/5XL 7 balls
Size 6.5 mm (U.S. 10½) knitting needles.

Size 6.5 mm (U.S. 10½) circular knitting needles 24 ins [60 cm] and 36 ins [90 cm] long or size needed to obtain tension. Cable needle.
TENSION
14 sts and 18 rows = 4 ins [10 cm] in stocking st.

ABBREVIATIONS
C12B = Slip next 6 sts onto cable needle and leave at back of work. K6, then K6 from cable needle.

INSTRUCTIONS
Cable Band
With pair of needles, cast on 15 sts.
1st row: (RS). Knit.
2nd and alt rows: P12. K3.
3rd and 5th rows: Knit.
7th row: K3. C12B.

9th row: Knit.
10th row: As 2nd row.
These 10 rows form Cable Pat.
Cont in Cable Pat until work from beg measures approx 46 (54) ins
[117 (137) cm], ending with a 10th row. Do not cast off. Break
yarn leaving a long end. Using end, graft sts to cast on edge to form
ring (center back seam).
Capelet Body
With RS facing and longer circular needle, beg at center back seam, pick up and knit 160 (192) sts evenly around top garter st edge of
Cable Band. Join in rnd, placing a marker at first st.
Next rnd: Purl.
Cont in stocking st (knit every rnd) until work from pick up edge
measures 8 (9) ins [20.5 (23) cm].
Dec as follows, changing to shorter needle where appropriate:
Dec rnd: *K8 (10). K2tog. Rep from * around. 144 (176) sts.
Knit 4 rnds.
Dec rnd: *K7 (9). K2tog. Rep from * around. 128 (160) sts.
Knit 4 rnds.
Dec rnd: *K6 (8). K2tog. Rep from * around. 112 (144) sts.
Knit 4 rnds.
Dec 16 sts evenly around next rnd and following 5th rnd (as before).
80 (112) sts.

A Real Winter Project- A Knitted Hanging

With the "holidaze" winding down and winter gearing up, what better way to stay indoors and commit to a grand project. This knitted hanging (designed by knitting artist Kaffe Fassett) could easily be turned into a huge project by doubling the strips for a blanket...it up to you...or it's up to how long your winter lasts...LOL.

Top edge
With RS facing, using 5mm (US 8H) crochet hook and yarn C, attach yarn at top right corner of hanging, 1ch (does NOT count as st), dc evenly to end, turn
Row 1: 1ch (does NOT count as st), 1dc into each dc to end.
Fasten off.

Bottom edge
With RS facing using 5mm (US 8H) crochet hook and yarn C, attach yarn to bottom left corner of hanging and work as given for top edge all around shaped bottom edge.

Amish Loom Afghan

Should you have asked Santa for an Amish Loom to try your hand at loomed knitting (weaving), here is a great pattern to get you started. Have a happy and safe holiday!
SIZE: One Size
About 32 x 35 in. (81.5 x 89 cm), not including fringe

MATERIALS
• 790-395 Lion Brand Homespun Yarn: Meadow 1 Ball (A)
• 790-312 Lion Brand Homespun Yarn: Edwardian 1 Ball (B)
• Amish Loom
• Lion Brand Crochet Hook - Size K-10.5 (for casting off and fringe)
• Large-Eye Blunt Needles (Set of 6)

GAUGE:
5 1/2 single wraps = 4 in. (10 cm). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE. When you match the
gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials
specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4
in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a
larger size hook or needles.

NOTES:
Follow instructions provided in the Loom manual for how to cast on, join new color
and cast off.

AFGHAN
With A and using all pegs, cast on. Following loom manual directions for Single Wrap method, work 16 rows with A.
Change to B. Continuing to work Single Wrap, work 6 rows with B.
Change to A and work 18 rows.
Change to B and work 9 rows.
Change to A and work 18 rows.
Change to B and work 4 rows.
Change to A and work 22 rows.
Cast off loosely.

FINISHING
Fringe
Cut 2 strands of yarn about 27 in. (68.5 cm) long. Hold strands together and fold in half. Use crochet hook to draw fold through edge of piece, forming a loop. Pull ends of fringe through this loop. Pull to tighten. Make 46 fringe along each end of Afghan. Knot end of each fringe. Weave in ends.

Knitting Needles: 5.5 mm [US 9].
Pair of 18” D-Shaped Faux Leather Handles.
1” elastic: two 9” pieces.
Sewing thread and needle.
Yarn needle.

GAUGE: 1 pattern repeat = 2 1/2”; 22 rows = 4” in Pattern
stitch before felting. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge.

Special Abbreviations
M1 = Make 1 (inc): Lift strand between needles to lefthand needle and work strand through the back loop, twisting it to prevent a hole.
Pattern Stitch (multiple of 12 sts)
Row 1 (Right Side): Knit.
Row 2: Purl.
Row 3: *[K2tog] twice, [M1, k1] 4 times, [k2tog] twice; repeat from *.
Row 4: Knit.
Repeat Rows 1-4 for Pattern stitch.

FRONT AND BACK (both alike)
With A, cast on 54 sts.
Work in St st for 20 Rows, end with a right side row.
To form casing, fold wrong sides together and knit a stitch from the left hand needle together with a stitch from the
cast on edge.
Increase Row (Wrong side): P12, [p1, M1] 30 times, p12 – 84 sts.

Begin Pattern
Change to B and beginning with Row 1, work in Pattern stitch for 12 rows.
Continue to work in Pattern stitch in the following sequence:
Change to C and work 12 rows.
Change to A and work 12 rows.
Change to B and work 12 rows.
Change to C and work 12 rows.
Change to A and work 12 rows.
Change to B and work 12 rows.
Change to C and work 12 rows.

Bind off.

FINISHING
Sew Front and Back pieces together along bottom and
side seams to bottom of first stripe of C.

Felting
Place purse in washing machine, with a small amount of
detergent. Wash on hottest wash – do not allow the rinse
cycle to complete until finished dimensions are reached.
Once you are satisfied allow the cycle to complete. Pull the purse into shape and trim any loose fibers. Allow purse to dry at room temperature for (36 – 48 hours depending on humidity).

With one piece of elastic, make a small slit approx 1/2” from
the end. Sew the other end of elastic to end of handle.
Insert straight knitting needle into slit and use it to pull the
elastic through the casing. Pull slightly to gather and trim
excess elastic before threading through the other side of
the handle; sew securely. Repeat on the other side.

Knitting Needles: 6mm [US 10].
Crochet Hook: 5mm [US H-8].
Stitch markers, yarn needle.

GAUGE: 15 sts = 4"; 20 rows = 4" in St st. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needles to obtain the gauge.

EARFLAPS (Make 2): Cast on 3 (3, 5) sts. Work in Garter st (K each row), inc 1 st each end of every other row until there are 15 (15, 17) sts. Put sts on a holder. Fasten off yarn. Make second earflap – DO NOT FASTEN OFF. Continue as follows: With sts of second earflap on needle, cast on 3 (5, 7) sts. K across these sts and next 15 (15, 17) sts of earflap, turn and cast on 17 (21, 25) sts, turn and K15 (15, 17) sts across sts on holder for first earflap, turn and cast on 3 (5, 7) sts – 53 (61, 73) sts. K 5 (7, 9) rows.
Now work in St st, begin K row, until 4 (5, 6)" from beg, end P row.

Shape Top: [K2tog, K9 (11, 14) sts, K2tog tbl, place marker on needle] 4 times, K1.
Next Row: Purl.
Next Row: [K2tog, K to 2 sts before marker, K2tog tbl] 4 times, K1.
Rep last 2 rows until 13 sts remain. Cut yarn, leaving long end for sewing. Weave through remaining sts, draw up tightly and fasten securely. Sew back seam.

Edging and Ties: With right side facing and crochet hook, attach yarn at center back seam; ch 1, sl st across back section and earflap to center point of earflap, ch 31 (41, 51); turn; sl st in each ch across; sl st into last st of earflap, sl st around front and down to point of next earflap, ch 31 (41, 51); turn; sl st in each ch across; sl st into last st of earflap, sl st to back seam; join. Fasten off. Weave in ends.

Ok, we're knitting potholders; how about a knitted plastic bag keeper to match those fabulous potholders.

Finished circumference: 10 1/2 in. (27cm)
Finished Length: 15 1/2 in. (39.5cm)

MATERIALS
• 760-136 Lion Brand Lion Cotton Yarn: Clove 1 Ball (A)
• 760-159 Lion Brand Lion Cotton Yarn: Mustard 1 Ball (B)
• 760-146 Lion Brand Lion Cotton Yarn: Fuchsia 1 Ball (C)
• Double-Pointed Needles - Size 7
• Stitch Markers
• Large-Eye Blunt Needles

With double pointed needles (dpn) and C, cast on 15 sts. Place marker for beginning of rnd. Join by working the first
st on left hand needle with the working yarn from the right hand needle, being careful not to twist sts.
Rnd 1: Knit
Rnd 2: Kfb into each st around – 30 sts.
Rnd 3: Knit.
Rnd 4: *K 1, kfb; rep from * around – 45 sts.
Rnd 5: Purl.
Rnd 6-15: Knit.
Change to B and k one rnd.
Change to A and work in St st worked in the rnd (k all rnds) until piece measures about 15 in. (38 cm) from beg.
Bind off 42 sts – 3 sts remain on needles.
Finishing
Attached I-Cord Border and Hanging Loop
Notes:
1.I-cord is attached to Keeper at the same time the cord is knit.
2.Cord is worked on 2 double-pointed needles (dpns).

Hanging Loop
Slip 3 remaining sts onto one double-pointed needle. **Do not turn work. Slide sts to other end of needle and k
across. Rep from * until cord measures about 7 in. (18 cm), then pick up a st along top edge of Keeper to join.

Edging
You will continue to work I-cord, attaching it to the Keeper as you go.
Work attached cord as follows: *insert needle through edge of Keeper, pick up one st and place onto dpn – 4 sts on
needle. Slide sts to other end of needle and k2, k2tog. Rep from * around edge of Keeper.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Draw tail through rem 3 sts, then use tail to sew end of cord to beg of cord.
Weave in ends.
