Lower Band: With smaller needles, cast on 17 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, (p1, k1) 6 times, p1, k2.
Row 2: P2, (k1, p1) 6 times, k1, p2.
Rep these 2 rows until piece measures 16(18-20-22-24-26)” from beg, end on WS. Bind off in ribbing.
Center Panel: With larger needles, cast on 35(41-45-51-55-61) sts. Work even in Seed St until piece measures 19(19-20-20½-21½-22)” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Shoulders: Bind off 3(6-8-11-13-16) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 29 sts for back neck.
Right Back Panel: With larger needles, cast on 23(26-28-31-33-36) sts. Work even in St st for 10(10-10½-10½-11-11)”, end on WS.
Shape Armholes: Bind off 5(5-6-6-7-7) sts at beg of the next RS row, then 2 sts at beg of the following RS row. Dec 1 st at beg of every RS row 3(6-7-10-11-14) times – 13 sts. Work even until armhole measures 8(8-8½-9-9½-10)”, end on WS.
Shape Shoulder: Bind off 7 sts at armhole edge once, then 6 sts once.
Left Back Panel: Work to correspond to right back panel, reversing all shaping. Bind off for armhole on WS rows. Work armhole decs at end of RS rows. Bind off for shoulder on WS rows.
LEFT FRONT
Lower Band: Work same as lower band of back for 11½(13-14½-16-17½-19)”, end on WS. Bind off.
Left Side Panel: Work same as right side panel of back.
Center Panel: Work same as center panel of back until piece measures 16(16- 17-17½-18½-19)” from beg,
end on RS – 35(41-45-51-55-61) sts.
Shape Neck: Bind off 21(24-26-29-31-34) sts, work to end. Dec 1 st at neck edge EVERY row 11 times – 3(6-8-11-13-16) sts. Work even until piece measures same as last bind-off of shoulder on left side panel,
end on WS. Bind off. Mark bound-off edge of neck at center point to indicate collar placement.
LEFT POCKET
With larger needles, cast on 23(26-28-31-33-36) sts. Work even in St st for 2½(2½-3-3-3½-3½)”, end on WS. Bind off 3(4-4-4-4-5) sts at beg of the next 5(5-7-4-2-6) RS rows, then 4(3-0-5-5-6) sts at beg of the next 2(2-0-3-5-1) RS rows.
Edging: With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k23(26-28-31-33-36) sts along bound-off edge of pocket. * Knit 1 row on WS. Starting with a K row, work 4 rows even in St st. On next row, knit each st together with st 4 rows below (on garter ridge), forming welt. ** Purl 1 row.
Next Row (RS): K1, SSK, k to last st, M1k, k1. Purl 1 row. Rep Next Row once more. Rep from * once more, then rep from * to ** once, binding off as you form the welt on the last row.
RIGHT FRONT
Lower Band: Work same as lower band of left front for ¾", end on WS.
Buttonhole Row (RS): Work 7 sts, yo, k2 tog, work to end.
Complete same as lower band of left front, make one more buttonhole when piece measures 2¾" from beg.
Right Side Panel: Work same as left side panel of back.
Center Panel: Work same as left side panel of left front, reversing all shaping. Bind off for neck on RS row.
Work neck decs at beg of RS rows and at end of WS rows. Bind off for shoulder on WS row. Mark bound-off edge of neck at center point to indicate collar placement.
RIGHT POCKET
Work same as left pocket, binding off on WS rows instead of RS.
Edging: With RS facing, using larger needles, pick up and k23(26-28-31-33-36) sts along bound-off edge of pocket. Work same as Edging on Left Pocket, from * to Next Row, end on WS.
Next Row (RS): K1, M1k, k to last st, K2 tog, k1. Complete same as Edging on Left Pocket, continuing to work Next Row in this manner.
SLEEVES
Cuff: Work same as lower band of back for ¾", end on WS. Work buttonhole same as on right side band of right front. Work even until cuff measures 2” from beg, end on WS. Mark beg of next row. Work even until cuff measures 12” from beg, end on WS. Bind off.
Upper Sleeve: With larger needles, cast on 50 sts. Work even in St st for 1”, end on WS.
Inc Row (RS): K1, M1k, k to last st, M1k, k1 – 52 sts. Rep this inc every 3½(2-1½-1-1-¾)” 4(7-9-12-14- 17) times more – 60(66-70-76-80-86) sts. Work even until sleeve measures 16” from beg, end on WS.
Shape Cap: Bind off 5(5-6-6-7-7) sts at beg of the next 2 rows – 50(56-58-64-66-72) sts. Dec 1 st each side every 17(17-17-18-18-20) times, end on WS – 16(22-24-28-30-32) sts. Bind off 2(5-3-5-4-5) sts at beg of the next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 12(12-18-18-22-22) sts.
FINISHING
Sew right and left side panels of back to center panel of back with seams on the RS of work. Sew lower band of back to upper sections with seams on the RS of work. Sew side and lower edges of pockets to side panels of fronts. Sew left side panel of left front to center panel of left front with seams on the RS of work. Sew right side panel of right front to center panel of right front with seams on the RS of work. Sew lower panels of
fronts to upper sections with seams on the RS of work. Sew shoulder seams with seams on WS of work. Sew sleeve cuffs to lower edges of sleeves with 2” sections containing buttonholes extending beyond right edge (as it faces you) of left sleeve and left edge (as it faces you) of right sleeve (see schematic) with seams on RS of work. Sew in sleeves with seams on WS of work. Sew side and sleeve seams with seams on WS of work.
Collar: With smaller needles, cast on 13 sts.
Row 1 (RS): K2, (p1, k1) 4 times, p1, k2.
Row 2: P2, (k1, p1) 4 times, k1, p2. Rep these 2 rows until piece measures ¾” from beg, end on WS.
Buttonhole Row (RS): Work 6 sts, yo, k2 tog, work to end. Work even in pat as established until piece measures 2” from beg, end on WS. Mark beg of last row worked. Work even until collar, with marker matched to marker on right front neck, reaches around neck to marker on left front neck. Bind off. Sew marked edge of collar to neck edge with seams on WS of work. Lap cuff tabs over cuffs and sew on buttons.
Lap collar tab over collar and sew on button. Lap right front over left front with right center panel directly over left center panel and sew on buttons.
