Tricolor Band Beret

KNIT MEASUREMENTS
10½“/27cm tall x 21“/53.5cm circumference
MATERIALS
2 balls Filatura Di Crosa ZARA 100%
extrafine merino wool (1.75oz/50g;
137yds/125m) in color #1404 black (A)
1 ball Filatura Di Crosa EVVIVA BLACK
44% wool, 36% acrylic, 12% polyester, 8% nylon (1.75oz/50g; 66yds/60m) in color #09 black/lime (B)
One size 11 (8mm) circular needle, 16" long OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
One set size 11 (8mm) double-pointed needles (dpns)
Stitch markers
Cable needle (cn)
Yarn needle, to weave in ends

NOTE: Zara (A) is used holding 2 strands together throughout.

GAUGE
19 sts and 18 rows = 4”/10cm in Basketweave Pattern with 2 strands of Zara (A) held together

SPECIAL TERMS
C4F Slip next 2 sts to cn, hold to front, k2, k2 from cn.
C4B Slip next 2 sts to cn, hold to back, k2, k2 from cn.

PATTERN STITCHES
Basketweave Pattern
Round 1 Knit.
Round 2 * (C4F), repeat from * around.
Round 3 Knit.
Round 4 K2, * (C4B), repeat from * around to last 2 sts; work C4B with last 2 sts and first 2 sts of this round.
Repeat Rounds 1-4 for Pattern.
Reverse Stockinette Stitch in the Round (Rev St st) – Purl every round.

BERET
With 2 strands A, cast on 100 sts and join in a round, taking care not to twist sts. Place marker
for beginning of round.
Work in Pattern for 20 rounds (approx. 4½").
Cut A. Join B and knit one round.
Purl every round for 4".
Change to dpns as necessary.

Shape Crown
Next Round [P10, place marker]; repeat to end of round (total of 10 markers placed).
Dec Round * [Purl to marker, p2tog after marker]; repeat to end of round – 90 sts remain.
Purl next round.*
Rep from * to * until 10 sts rem.
Cut B, leaving a 12” tail. Pull tail through remaining sts and pull tightly to fasten off.
Weave in ends.
