Knit Cotton Table Runner and Placemats

Now that I' ve completed my move into my new abode, my color scheme has changed and I want a fresh look, and a great way to add a little zing is to knit up a brand new table runner with matching placemats!

SIZE Table Runner: 10" x 45" Placemat: 10" x 9"
MATERIALS:

• LION BRAND Lion Cotton 2 balls # 158 Banana (A) 1 ball #183 Periwinkle (B) 1 ball #181 Sage (C) 1 ball #108 Morning Glory Blue (D)

• Size 8 (5 mm) knitting needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE

• Large-eyed, blunt needle
GAUGE:
16 stitches + 32 rows (16 ridges) = 4" (10 cm) in Garter stitch (knit every row) using Size 8 needles. BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.

TABLE RUNNER
With A, cast on 40 stitches. Knit 72 rows (36 ridges); repeat with colors B, C and D. Change to A and work another 72 rows (36 ridges). Bind off all 40 stitches. Weave in ends.

FINISHING With A, sew an overcast stitch all around the runner and along the line of each color change.

PLACE MATS Cast on 40 stitches. Knit until there are 72 rows (36 ridges).
Bind off all stitches and weave in ends.
