Eco-Friendly Mouse Wrist Rest

Your wrist will be soooo pampered while you cruise the Net. This wrist rest is knitted with organic cotton, so soft,...so ergonomically correct...what more could you ask for?

Materials:
Pakucho Organic Cotton [100% Cotton; Approx. 88yd/81m per 50g skein]; color: Vanilla; 1 skein
[Alternate 1: Ecoknit Organic Cotton [100% Cotton; 110yd/100m per 50g skein ]; 1 skein]
[Alternate 2: Blue Sky Alpacas Organic Cotton [100% Cotton; 150yd/137m per 100g skein ]; 1 skein]
1 set of US size 5 straight needles
Tapestry needle
Stuffing
Cardboard or plastic mesh canvas(optional)

Gauge
21 sts/29 rows = 4" in stockinette stitch
PATTERN NOTES
This pattern is worked tightly on needles a few sizes smaller then the usual size for the this size yarn. This helps the pillow keep it's shape.


DIRECTIONS
Loosely cast on 20 stitches.

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, 13, 15, and 17 (WS): Purl .

Row 2: K1, m1, k18, m1, k1.
Row 4: K1, m1, k20, m1, k1.
Row 6: K1, m1, k22, m1, k1.
Row 8: Knit.
Row 10: Knit.
Row 12: K1, k2tog, k20, ssk, k1.
Row 14: K1, k2tog, k18, ssk, k1.
Row 16: K1, k2tog, k16, ssk, k1.

Row 18: Purl (this creates a 'turning row').

Rows 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 (WS): Purl.
Row 2: K1, m1, k18, m1, k1.
Row 4: K1, m1, k20, m1, k1.
Row 6: K1, m1, k22, m1, k1.
Row 8: Knit.

Rows 10-11(short rows): Work across to within 3 sts of of end of row. Wrap the next stitch (with yarn in back, slip next stitch from left hand to right hand needle, bring yarn to front of work, slip back to left hand needle), turn work around and work back to other end to within 3 sts of end of row. Wrap next st, turn, work back to one stitch before previous wrapped stitch. Repeat until four stitches on each side have been wrapped.
Next row, work all the way to end of row, picking up wrapped sts along with regular sts and knitting as one st. Work back, picking up wrapped sts as before.

Row 12: K1, k2tog, k20, ssk, k1.
Row 13, 15, and 17: Purl.
Row 14: K1, k2tog, k18, ssk, k1.
Row 16: K1, k2tog, k16, ssk, k1.
Row 18: Bind off all sts.

Finishing:
Weave in yarn ends and whip stitch one side and front of mouse pad closed. Print out bottom reinforcement template here or trace your own if desired. Using template, cut out piece from plastic mesh canvas or cardboard and insert into opening. Add stuffing on top of this until desired firmness. Finish whip stitching last side closed and tie off.
