Not Your Average Beret!

This hat will have heads turn and have other berets and beanies just plain jealous!

KNITTED MEASUREMENTS
22"/56 cm circumference

MATERIALS
• 2 balls S. Charles Collezione TINKA 100% fine merino wool (1.75oz/50g; 108yds/100m) in color #10 ebony (A)
• 2 balls S. Charles Collezione NATASHA 38% wool, 33% acrylic, 24% alpaca, 5% nylon (1.75oz/50g; 38yds/35m) in color #03 ebony (B)
• One pair size 11 (8mm) needles OR SIZE TO OBTAIN GAUGE
• One pair size 15 (10mm) needles
• Yarn needle

GAUGE
12 sts and 15 rows = 4"/10 cm in k2, p3 rib using smaller needles and 2 strands of A held together 8 sts and 12 rows = 4"/10 cm in
Stockinette stitch using larger needles and B
TAKE TIME TO CHECK GAUGE

SPECIAL TERMS
M1: Make 1 (inc) – Lift strand between needles to left-hand needle and work strand through the back loop, twisting it to prevent a hole, [knit or purl as indicated by pattern st].

Shape Brim
(WS) Dec 1 st this row, then every other row 13 times, as follows: P2tog, work to end – 6 sts rem. Bind off in rib.

CROWN
With RS of BRIM facing, using smaller needles and 2 strands of A held together, pick up and knit 58 sts along left-hand (shaped) edge of BRIM. Purl 1 row.
(RS) Change to larger needles, B, and Rev St st; work even for 5 rows.

Shape Crown
Dec Row 1 (WS): K1, *k2tog, k2; rep from * to last st, k1 – 44 sts rem. Work even for 3 rows.
Dec Row 2 (WS): K1, *k2tog, k1; rep from * to last st, k1 – 30 sts rem. Work even for 3 rows.
Dec Row 3 (WS): K1, *k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 – 16 sts rem. Work even for 1 row.
Dec Row 4 (WS): *K2tog; rep from * to end – 8 sts rem. Break yarn, thread through rem sts, pull tight and fasten off. Sew back seam.

FINISHING
Weave in ends.
