Wide Striped Hat

With this pattern you can choose colors that match your favorite coat, ski sweater or football team! And you can make matching ones for your whole family!

Child 5-6 (Child 9-10, Adult Medium, Adult Large) Finished Circumference 14 1/2 (17, 19 1/2, 22) in. [37 (43, 49.5, 56) cm]

Note: Pattern is written for smallest size with changes for larger sizes in parentheses. When only one number is given, it applies to all sizes. To follow pattern more easily, circle all numbers pertaining to your size before beginning.

MATERIALS
• 620-174 Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn: Avocado 1 Ball (A)
• 620-126 Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn: Chocolate Brown 1 Ball (B)
• 620-123 Lion Brand Wool-Ease Yarn: Seaspray 1 Ball (C)
• Knitting Needles- Size 8 [5 mm]
• Large-Eye Blunt Needles (Set of 6)

GAUGE:
18 1/2 sts + 24 rows = 4 in. (10 cm) in St st (knit on RS, purl on WS). BE SURE TO CHECK YOUR GAUGE.
When you match the gauge in a pattern, your project will be the size specified in the pattern and the materials specified in the pattern will be sufficient. If it takes you less stitches and rows to make a 4 in. [10 cm] square, try using a smaller size hook or needles; if more stitches and rows, try a larger size hook or
needles.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
NOTES: Carry unused color along wrong side of work.
STRIPE SEQUENCE
*Work 10 rows each with B, C, and A; rep from * for Stripe Sequence.

CAP
With A, cast on 68 (79, 90, 101) sts. Beg with a WS row, work 12 rows in St st (k on RS, p on WS). Change to B and begin working in
Stripe Sequence, and St st until piece measures about 6 (6 1/2, 7, 8) in. (15 (16.5, 18, 20.5) cm) from beg, end with a WS row (a purl row is the last row you work).

Shape Crown
Row 1 (RS): K1, *k4 (5,6,7), k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 57 (68, 79, 90) sts remain at the end of this row.
Row 2 and all WS rows: Purl.
Row 3: K1, *k3 (4, 5, 6), k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 46 (57, 68, 79) sts.
Row 5: K1, *k2 (3, 4, 5), k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 35 (46, 57, 68) sts.
Row 7: K1, *k1 (2, 3, 4), k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 24 (35, 46, 57) sts.

FOR SIZE CHILD 5-6 ONLY
Row 9: K1, *k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 13 sts.

FOR SIZE CHILD 9-10 ONLY
Row 9: K1, *k1, k2tog; rep from * to last st, k1 - 24 sts.

ALL SIZES
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining sts, and pull tightly to secure.

FINISHING
Sew back seam. Weave in ends.
