Triple Berry Hat with Matching Cowl

I'm not the Valentine-y kinda girl, but I do like berries!

This hat is knit inside out.

Materials: 1 ball PolarKnit™ 80m/88yds - Worsted Weight
6mm (US 10) circular 16-17” long 6mm (US 10) double pointed needles Stitch markers

Gauge: 4sts per inch. When you begin the Pattern Stitch below, there are approximately 4 bobbles every 3 inches.

Size: One size fits all, 20-22” adult head circumference.

Pattern Stitch: Triple Berry or Trinity Stitch: (multiple of 4sts over 4 rows) Row 1 - (WS) *(K1, P1, K1) into same st, P3tog* repeat to end. Row 2 - Knit row. Row 3 - *P3tog, (K1, P1, K1) into same st* repeat to end. Row 4 - Knit row.

Instructions: Cast 66 sts onto circular needle, join into round being careful not to twist stitches. Place a stitch marker to remind you where is beginning of the row is. Begin a rib pattern of *K1, P1* and repeat to end of row. Repeat this row 6 more times. The ribbed edge of the hat is now finished. Increase row - *K3, M1* repeat to end of row. 88sts remain on needle. Now begin the 4 row Triple Berry or Trinity Stitch outlined above. Repeat Rows 1 to 4 four times until your hat measures about 4” from the cast on edge.

Hat Decrease: Row 1 - Repeat row 1 of Pattern Stitch. Here comes the tricky part . . . You will be decreasing one entire bobble (or 5sts) at a time.

Refer to diagram below.

Slip sts 1, 2, and 3 knitwise onto right needle. Pass 2 over 3, so only 3 and 1 remain. Slip 3 onto left needle. Pass 4 over 3, so only 3 and 5 remain. Slip 3 onto right needle. Pass 1 over 3, so only 3 remains. Slip 3 onto left needle. Pass 5 over 3, so only one stitch remains. Knit this stitch.
Row 2 - K19, 5dec, K39, 5dec, K20. (80sts)
Row 3 - repeat row 3 of Pattern Stitch.
Row 4 - K8, 5dec, K23, 5dec, K19, 5dec, K15. (68sts)
Row 5 - repeat row 1 of Pattern Stitch.
Row 6 - K7, 5dec, K19, 5dec, K15, 5dec, K12. (56sts)
Row 7 - Repeat row 3 of Pattern Stitch. Now switch to dpn’s.
