8mm-[11US] 16” circular needle.
8mm-[11US] Double pointed needles.
Yarn needle.
Stitch Holder.
GAUGE: 11 sts = 4”; 20 rows = 4” measured over pat using 11 US needles. CHECK YOUR GAUGE. Use any size needle to obtain the gauge given.

Note: Note: Divide stitches evenly on double pointed needles when circumference of crown is too small for circular needle.
Chin and Ear Flaps: Cast on 3 sts and work approx 10” of garter st. (Every row knit)Noting first row is r.s.
Increase 1 st each end of next and following r.s. rows
Until there are 9(9, 11) sts ending w.s.
Work 2 rows even on smaller sizes only.
Place sts on holder until other strap is worked.
Knit across 1 ear flap, turn and cast on 12(14, 16) sts for back neck, knit across other ear flap sts, turn and cast on 18(20, 22) sts for front. Place marker before joining taking care not to twist. 48(52, 60) sts.
Rnd 1: Purl
Rnd 2 and all even rnds: Knit
Rep last 2 rnds once more, increasing 0(4, 4) sts evenly over last rnd. 48(56, 64) sts.
Work approx 1” st. st. (every rnd knit)

Decrease Rnd 1: [P6, P2tog] 6(7, 8) times 42(49, 56) sts.
Rnd 2 and all even rnds: Knit.
Rnd 3: [P5, P2tog] 6(7, 8) times 36(42, 48) sts.
Rnd 5: [K4, K2tog] 6(7, 8) times 30(35, 40) sts.
Rnd 7: [K3, K2tog] 6(7, 8) times 24(28, 32) sts.
Rnd 9: [p2, P2tog] 6(7, 8) times 18(21, 24) sts.
Rnd 11: [P1, P2tog] 6(7, 8) times 12(14, 16) sts.
Rnd 13: [K2tog] 6(7, 8) times 6(7, 8) sts.
Rnd 14: Knit.
Cut yarn leaving enough to thread through remaining sts, fasten and secure.
Finishing: Weave in all loose ends.
Make Tassle: Cut approx 30 x 10” lengths of yarn and tie them at the center, wrap approx 1” down from center and secure before attaching to crown of hat.
